Relative size

The first fossils of Glossotherium were found by Charles Darwin in his trip to South America, more specifically, in western Uruguay. This sloth was smaller than Lestodon, weighing around a ton and a half. Its snout was shorter and wider than that of other ground sloths. Its name, which means “Tongue beast”, refers to some cranial morphological features that allowed researchers to determine this animal may have had a large tongue.
